Role: Lead 3D Rigger
Character Hair Rig using Autodesk Maya software. This rig was a little bit tricky. I was handed a rig that already had a hair rig (joint based). First attempt was trying just to paint weights on it; however, it still didn’t get the hair effect the Director was looking for. I scrapped the whole hair rig and designed a new rig myself using the soft modification tool. Using that tool connected to controllers that had a falloff attribute seemed to do the trick. The falloff allowed the animators to mimic the effect of wind blowing through the hair and allowed for a nice bounce.
